Secret 7” takes 7 tracks from 7 of the best-known musicians around and presses each one 100 times to 7” vinyl. They then invite creatives from around the world to interpret the tracks in their own style for their competition. The winning sleeves are then shown at their exhibition. The artists are not allowed to use the song/artist name in the artwork. No one knows who created the sleeve, or even which song it’s for, until they have purchased a vinyl at the exhibition - the secret lies within.

I choose Clearest Blue by Churches (one of my favourite artists). I took a literal visual representation of the lyrics that were mainly focused on the lyric "Every open eye". I didn't really have a plan with this. I just played the track on repeat and doodled whatever I was thinking of at the time. I spent around 2 days on the piece altogether. I experimented with various versions of the cover but I ended up using one of the earlier ones. I wanted to experiment with my work but not overthink it.
Unfortunately, this sleeve didn't make it into the competition, but I'm defintely going to try again next year. It's a great competition.
